10 Favorite Knitting Things This Week!

I've been out of it for a few days.  So you get back to back posts!  I had bunion surgery on Thursday:
Yikes! Isn't the wall such an ugly green?
I tried every conservative therapy for my bunions. My insurance won't cover orthopedic shoes but they cover surgery.  Which is really crazy when you think about it.  Orthopedic shoes are pricey at $400+ for a pair.  However, surgery is at least 10 times that amount.  The insurance company is clueless about cost effectiveness.

When I still felt pain wearing New Balance sneakers and Aerosoles w/ inserts, I knew I had no choice.    I knitted some exercises from Stitch 'N Bitch to keep busy in pre-op.  Post-op I was too loopy to knit.  I really tried - anesthesia and knitting don't mix, LOL!

I will be on crutches for about 6 months (I'm getting the right foot done in 6 weeks.)  While I was practicing using crutches last week, I discovered my normal knitting tote is NOT compatible with crutches.   The bag suddenly swung and I almost went flying. If had needed them I would've been hurt.  So I decided to get a knitting bag that is crutch-safe.

10 Favorite Knitting Things This Week after the jump
Since I'm going to be off my feet for two weeks, I figured I could get my knit on.  So I set up my Ravelry queue to keep me super busy!

  1. My hubster! I sent him to the Lion Brand Yarn Studio yesterday. He did such a great job and bought everything on my huge HAUL list.
  2. Nantucket Diddy Bagg, $50 Yeah it was pricey at Lion Brand but I needed it right no.  I love that it's convertible from a tote to a backpack.  It has 30 pockets inside and holds two small projects, my notions, my long needles and my circular needles.  It rawks!
  3. Clover Takumi Velvet 16" circular needles - my first circular needle.  I was intimidated but knitting with these is such a pleasure.  They are eco-friendly too so that's a bonus!
  4. Wool-Ease - I love this yarn.  It's an Acrylic/Wool blend that's super warm and soft.  It's one of my favorites!
  5. stuff4knitting.com - The good: This week I found a blocking wires set for $15.49! I used the everyday 5% off Promo code: SAVE5 and my reward points for a total of $11 before shipping.  The bad: One item on my first order was listed as "in stock" but it turns out they sold out of it.  They didn't let me know right away so I could order an alternate color.  They did instantly refund my Paypal.  It could've been a fluke but if it happens on my current orders I will be very cheesed off.
  6. KnitPicks.com - tons of people on Ravelry love Knit Picks.  I love the free shipping with a $50 purchase.  Since my Rav queue is chock full, I decided to get the Try It Needle Set, $20.  As a baby knitter, I don't know what needles work best with me yet.  I also got the $20 Blocking Mat set.
  7. Escargot hat pattern - this hat is gor-ge-ous!  I love that you can make two versions of the hat using two skeins of yarn.  I emailed the designer, Veronica Parsons, with some n00b questions and she was so lovely and patient.  I can't wait to knit this up!
  8. Dragonfly Fibers - this is the most $ I've spent on yarn.  I just loved how the yarn looked in the Escargot pattern.  Unfortunately, the color Titania was no longer available.  So I selected Poseidon Bluefaced Worsted instead.  So I emailed Kate of Dragonfly Fibers to see if Poseidon and the other color yarn, Chestnut, looked good together.  Kate was so sweet... she checked to see if they had any Titania left as well as holding Poseidon next to Chestnut.  She suggested Espresso Roast Bluefaced Worsted.  I think that combo will pop so I bought it!  Super excited to get them in my mailbox.
  9. AVON naturals hand/body lotion, $3.99 I have this in peach and mango, and vanilla.  They smell so yummy and keep my hands super soft while I knit.
  10. Sock-Ease in Cotton Candy - There's a sock KAL going on in the HPKCHC this month.  The color is self-striping and I just couldn't resist.  What's nice is that one ball makes a pair of socks and Aloe Vera is in the yarn.  So my hands and feet will be silky smooth by the time I finish with this!
Well I better start the next post and get back to the knit!
